HardNoX End of Season Report

Well everyone. We went into Rounds 6\7 of the EMRA championship hoping to have an epic last weekend of racing at Stratotech Park. Unfortunately it was epic for the wrong reasons. During Friday qualifying Ali had an accident and was transported to hospital. She is OK but her recovery and rehabilitation will take a few months. Then during Sunday's Expert 60 SS race Rob suffered a high side out of turn 9 and crashed heavily destroying his race bike. Luckily Rob suffered no ill effects from the crash after being treated in hospital.

We would like to sincerely thank all of people that came to help us during this time. We would especially like to thank all of those people that helped donate funds to help Ali during her recovery. As an independent business consultant she does not have any income during this time. Your generosity over the weekend was overwhelming and heart warming.

The EMRA family is truly amazing!

Year End Review

Well the 2012 season has come to an end for the HardNoX crew. With the closure of Race City, our home track, we headed for new venues and challenges. While the whole team was not able to participate full time the HardNoX crew had a great year. Ali competed very strongly in the EMRA fighting for race wins up until the last round. Rob set out for the Western Canadian Championships and again scored a top 5 placing. The whole team got a chance to "go out and have fun racing" this year and we look forward to the new challenges in 2013.

HardNoX Expands Again

HardNoX Racing is proud to announce the addition of another rider to its race team. Ali Cohen will be joining the team on her Suzuki GSXR-600 to compete in the 2012 EMRA and Western Canadian Championships as well as select competitions for UtahSBA/MoM at the world class Miller Motorsports Park in Utah US.

Ali exploded into the world of motorcycles and motorcycle racing 4 years ago at Race City Speedway in Calgary. Her drive and determination to quickly learn the skills that takes EXPERT level riders years to accomplish was simply awe-inspiring. In 2010 she took charge and dominated at a visiting track to earn herself the EMRA Women’s Championship, Ali then followed that up with the 2011 CMRA Women’s Championship at her own home track. 2011 also saw Ali land a 3rd place in the overall Intermediate 600 standings in the Western Canadian Championships. This girl can move!!

On top of being a racer, Ali devotes alot of time to volunteering and to coaching other riders at track days and local riding schools. She also had the honour of being a Guest speaker at the 2012 Ladies Motorcycle Retreat hosted by "The Planet Tour" and narrator to the motorcycle film documentary “Life at 45°”. Downtime for Ali also includes motorcycles as she spends time in the hills and on frozen lakes on her dirt bike with the Second Gear Club.

It is for these and many other reasons that HardNoX Racing is excited and proud to have Ali as part of our team. Good luck Ali, and Goooo HARD!!

The Last Ride

HardNoX competed this weekend in Rounds 5 & 6 of the CMRA Championship at Race City Motorsports Park in Calgary, AB, Canada. With the permanent closure of Race City this year and championships on the line it was the biggest weekend for the HardNoX crew ever.

Saturday started off with Rob Darlington and Claude Bergeron in the Middleweight Sportbike class. As Rob has done all year he got out front early pulled away from the field, lead every lap and won the race; thus becoming the 2011 CMRA Middleweight Sportbike Champion. Claude ran his usual typical steady race to finish in the top ten. In Middleweight Superbike Rob continued his winning streak by leading the whole race and securing his second championship of the year.

Next up was the dual Superbike races with Curtis Lindenbach and Rob. Curtis got off to a great start in race one and finished second; securing second place in the CMRA Superbike Championship. Rob unfortunately ran wide in turn 5 and crashed putting him out for the rest of the day.

Sunday dawned clear and cool. Typical for a Calgary fall day, and perfect for racing. With a rebuilt motorcycle Rob was ready to get back on the horse for the Middleweight Sportbike race. Without any practice time on the repaired bike, Rob took it cool running to a third place finish. Claude fought hard to the end for a top 10 again. After lunch things were back up to par. In the Middleweight Superbike race Rob was battling hard with Craig Hubley of Redline Motorsports and Brad Gavey, when Craig crashed heavily in turn 6 almost collecting Rob. The next few laps saw Rob defending the lead from a hard charging Brad but a lapped rider would get between them giving Rob the opportunity to win the final middleweight superbike race held at Race City.

With all the HardNoX championship standings secured; the last Superbike races to ever be held at Race City was a time to enjoy racing and have fun. Superbike race 1 was a bit of a challenge for Curtis as his tires were not working well. He experienced a couple of slips ending up 6th while Rob powered to a 5th place finish. Superbike race 2 was a more typical run for the HardNoX crew. Curtis ran strong to a third place finish with Rob ending up in the top 5 again. This season has been the most successful one for HardNoX and with the closure of Race City it is the end of an era for HardNoX and the Calgary motorcycling community.

The HardNoX team would like to thank all of its sponsors, friends and supporters over the years for a wonderful time. We hope we provided you a fun and exciting time.

HardNoX wishes to thank its supporters; HardNoX Track Dayz, Emphasize Design Redline Motorsports, Diamond Valley Clothing Company, Spy Designs, Too Cool Motorcycle School, Acceleration Racing, HEL brake lines, Vass Performance, and DeWalt Canada.

HardNoX Pushed Forward

Round three of the CMRA Championship took on a familiar feel for the HardNoX Racing team this last weekend. With the previous success of the last two rounds, the team was looking forward to stepping up their pace. The weekend started with Saturdays Endurance race with a familiar second place finish. The HardNoX Team took an early lead in the race but with more rider changes than other teams moved into second place and held it to the end.

Sunday dawned brightly as the team knew they had the pace to run at the front, and boy did they! The first race of the day was the HardNoX Track Dayz Middleweight Sportbike class. Rob Darlington and Claude Bergeron lined up for the race and got great starts with Rob leading into corner one and pulled away from the field. With a large lead by half way, Rob managed the gap and won the race. Claude battled mid pack to pick up his 3rd top ten of the season. In the Bow Cycle Senior Open, Claude got off to a good start and managed to get a second top ten finish for the day. Next up was the Middleweight Superbike race. Again Rob got out early and controlled the race for his second win of the day. With the combined grid Claude managed to battle to a 14th place finish.

The final two races of the day would see Curtis Lindenbach and Rob battle in the Tage Davidson Superbike races. Curtis has been running at the front of this grid all season and expectations were that he would continue to do so. Rob runs at a disadvantage in this race against the full 1000cc superbike machines but still closes on the front of the grid. In race one both riders got off to a great start and steadily pushed toward the front. Curtis was up at the front challenging for first place and Rob wasn’t far behind. At the end Curtis finished in third with Rob behind him in fourth. In the second race it was the familiar sight of the HardNoX bikes at the front of the field. Curtis managed to run fast to his 5th second place finish of the season with Rob running for fourth place again.

These great results have moved the HardNoX racers into the top spots of the CMRA Championship. At half way point in the season, Rob is leading the Middleweight Sportbike and Superbike classes and Curtis is in a solid second place in the Superbike class.
Next up will be Round 4 of the CMRA championship Aug 27 & 28 at Race City Motorsports Park in Calgary.

HardNoX wishes to thank its growing number of supporters; HardNoX Track Dayz, REEL RYDES, Redline Motorsports, Diamond Valley Clothing Company, Spy Designs, Too Cool Motorcycle School, Acceleration Racing, HEL brake lines, Vass Performance, and DeWalt Canada.

HardNoX Racer at the Podium

HardNoX rider, Rob Darlington went to Round 3 & 4 of the Western Canadian Championship in Edmonton this weekend with one goal. Be at the front. He succeeded in doing that. With only Saturday morning practice available to him Rob had to remind himself how to ride the 9 turn Stratotech Park track and to qualify well enough for the front of the grid. In his first race on Saturday he was able find the quick line and finished in third place! Rob would also line up for the 600 Supersport race with the podium in mind. He again achieved that goal for his second third place of the day.

On Sunday Rob again would get the feel for the track running his personal best lap times in the second 600 Supersport race to achieve another third place. The two third places helped Rob to move into the top 3 in points in the WCC 600 Super sport champioship. With the next round of the WCC at HardNoX's home track in Calgary Rob is set to have a great season in this championship. You can see the whole HardNoX team in action this weekend July 23-24 at Round 3 of the CMRA Championship in Calgary at Race City.

HardNoX at the Front

HardNoX racers had a mixed weekend for Round 2 of the CMRA championship. Rob Darlington suffered a cold tire crash first thing on Saturday morning but was able to come back on Sunday to race. The HardNoX Endurance team had to take on a substitute rider for Rob in the form of Dave Amyotte. Dave acclimatized himself well with the BMW S1000rr and helped Curtis Lindenbach and Trayr Gabert secure their second, second place finish of the season.

Sunday started out rainy but that did not stop Rob from capturing his second race win of the season in Middleweight Sportbike. Claude Bergeron again powered to a solid top ten in the same race. In an uncanny turn of events, Rob again missed out on a sure win in Middleweight Superbike due to a mechanical failure, while Claude again grabbed a top 10 finish.

The afternoon dried out and the HardNoX crew were ready to tackle the double Superbike races. Curtis fired off the line into second place and hounded the eventual race winner coming close to winning but captured another second place finish. Rob unfortunately suffered his second crash of the weekend and retired for the weekend. In race 2 Curtis again showed his speed and mastery of his BMW S1000rr Superbike to take his 4th second place of the season. This puts Curtis solidly in the hunt for the CMRA Superbike Championship.

Watch for HardNoX next at Round 2 of the Wetern Canadian Champioship in Edmonton on July 16-17

HardNoX Takes the Podium

For Round 1 of the CMRA Championship HardNoX went to the podium multiple times and won. To start the racing weekend off HardNoX competed in the CMRA endurance race. With Trayr Gabert, Rob Darlington and Curtis Lindenbach using Curtis’s new BMW S1000rr race bike the team powered to a second place finish. This would be the start of a trend for the weekend.

On Sunday the racing started off with Rob and Claude Bergeron competing in the Middleweight Sportbike race with good results. While Rob was leading the race by a large margin over the field, with 4 laps to go he suffered an electrical problem which ended his race placing him 5th; which would turn out to be his lowest result of the weekend. Claude raced hard charging to a top ten finish as well, aboard his Honda CBR600RR.

Then after lunch Rob and Claude again teamed up to participate in the Middleweight Superbike race. This race was an indicator of the season to come for Rob as he got a great start and steadily pulled away from the field to win the race by over 3 seconds, aboard his Yamaha YZF-R6. Claude got a great start and battled to another top ten finish.

With the new 2011 CMRA schedule, the Superbike class has been expanded to a double header format for 2011; Curtis decided to concentrate on this class aboard his BMW S1000rr. This was a good decision! In Superbike 1 Curtis carved through the field to finish second, and in Superbike 2 he immediately jumped into the second place position and stayed there pushing the eventual race winner the whole race. Due to the format change Rob is competing in this class as well. Even though he is running his YZF-R6 against 1000cc machines he managed to battle to a pair of 4th place finishes.

All in all a great start to the CMRA season for all the HardNoX riders. They will be back at it again for Round 2 on June 25 and 26.

HardNoX wishes to thank its growing number of supporters; HardNoX Track Dayz, REEL RYDES, Redline Motorsports, Diamond Valley Clothing Company, Spy Designs, Too Cool Motorcycle School, Acceleration Racing, HEL brake lines, Vass Performance, and DeWalt Canada.

HardNoX Hits the High Notes

HardNoX Racing sped toward its most successful racing weekend ever this last weekend in Round 3 of the CMRA Championship. HardNoX racer Rob Darlington dominated the weekend with wins in the Pro Middleweight Sportbike and Middleweight Superbike races; while teammate Curtis Lindenbach shot through the field to nab 2 fourth place finishes in the same races. Curtis made it a hat trick of fourth places finishing the Open Superbike race in fourth. Claude Bergeron also had a great weekend grabbing a top ten finish in the Amateur Heavyweight race. HardNoX will be heading to Edmonton July 24-25 to compete in the second round of the Western Canadian Championship hosted by the Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association at Stratotech Park.

HardNoX Welcomes the Nationals

HardNoX Racing eagerly anticipated the arrival of the Parts Canada Superbike series to their home track of Race City in Calgary over this last weekend. For the first time in it history HardNoX would be competing with all of its riders in the national series. Curtis Lindenbach and Rob Darlington would be competing in the Pro Sportbike class and Claude Bergeron would challenge in the Amateur Sportbike class.

Friday constituted practice and qualifying for the double header weekend, and all the riders were looking to put their fastest lap times down for a good grid position. However Curtis was suffering from a bad cold and only did a handful of laps to put himself on the grid. The surprise at the end of the day was that Rob ran fast enough to qualify 4th on the Pro Sportbike grid to put himself on the front row alongside such national stars as Jordan Szoke, Jodi Christie, and Cody Matechuck. Claude also picked up speed to improve his start position on the Amateur Sportbike grid.

Saturday brought the challenge of the first of two race days for the HardNoX team. Rob and Curtis rolled out for the Pro Sportbike race right after lunch as the first feature race of the afternoon. At the start Rob bobbled his start trying a new launching technique which put him back in the middle of the pack. Rob quickly started clawing back positions from the riders in front of him and was quickly closing back up on his fourth place starting spot when he came up on a slower rider out of the bus stop and touched the back of the rider in front of him which caused a low side crash. Rob was uninjured and was able to get back on the bike a lap down finishing the race in 15th place, turning his fastest lap time of the weekend! Curtis meanwhile fought hard with the middle of the pack, and his cold to finish the race in 12th place just ahead of celebrity guest rider Greg White from SPEED TV. In the Amateur Sportbike race Claude got a rocket start into the fast 100 MPH turn one at Race City picking up 5 spots. He fought hard with his regular Calgary competitors finishing with one of his fastest lap times of the year.

Sunday morning brought a new challenge for Rob as he had to rebuild his bike over night from the Saturday crash. Curtis was finally feeling good enough to mount a serious challenge in race two of the Pro Sportbike class. The start of race worked perfectly for both HardNoX riders as Rob slotted into the 5th place spot well ahead of the rest of the pack with room to chase the top 4 riders. Curtis got a great start and moved up several places to challenge for a top 5 position as well. Unfortunately Rob would suffer another crash in the chicane which brought out the red flag and stopped the race. Rob would be OK but the bike was out of commission. Curtis took advantage of the restarted race and fought tooth and nail taking over the 5th place position that Rob had earlier held. At the end of the race Curtis would edge himself to 5th place as the top Calgary rider in the Pro Sportbike class and turning one of his best lap times of the year. In Amateur Sportbike action Claude would again battle in the middle of the pack charging hard and swapping places back and forth throughout the whole race with Vanessa Gareau_Dominguez of Montreal. Claude too would end up posting one of his fastest lap times of the weekend.

Even though the weekend was a disappointment with Rob’s crashes, the HardNoX team had a great weekend overall with all of its riders posting some of their fastest lap times of the year and proving that they could be front runners at the national level.

HardNoX next goes into battle for Round 3 of the CMRA Championship July 17-18 at Race City Motorsports Park.

HardNoX Racing appreciates the support of their premier sponsors: BGPR Schools, Acceleration Racing/Hotbodies Racing, Spy Design Graphic Designs and Redline Motorsports, Diamond Valley Clothing Co, and Advanced Coating Technologies.

HardNoX Burns Up the Track

HardNoX Racing rider Rob Darlington's debut in Mission. BC this weekend got off to a bit of a false start. Leaving Calgary in a snowstorm, Rob made his way out to Mission where the west coast rain had set it for the weekend. Starting off his first race weekend on rain tires proved to be a challenge for Rob. He experienced a couple minor falls but was able to get back up, repair the bike and compete. On Saturday Rob managed a 6 th place in Expert Open Supersport. Sunday too had its ups and downs as Rob was able to set the second fastest lap time of the race which allowed him to break into the top 5 in Expert 600 supersport. However that would be the highlight of the weekend as Rob suffered a minor low side in the exit of turn two which saw his Yamaha R6 gas tank rupture. This caused a fire which consumed the motorcycle ending Rob's weekend. Rob and the whole team will be ready to race for Round 1 of the CMRA Championship in a couple of weeks.

HardNoX Revs Up

HardNoX Racing starts up their racing season this weekend with a trip to Mission, BC for Round 1 of the Western Canadian Championship. HardNoX will be represented by Rob Darlington. This will be the second time out in Mission for Rob and he is looking forward to a successful start to the season. The rest of the team, including Claude Bergeron and Curtis Lindenbach, will start their season May 22-23 at Round 1 of the CMRA championship at Race City Motorsports Park.

HardNoX racing would also like to thank their returning sponsors for the 2010 season: BGPR Schools, Acceleration Racing/Hotbodies Racing, Spy Design Graphic Designs, Redline Motorsports, Diamond Valley Clothing and Advanced Coating Technologies

HardNoX Celebrates

HardNoX Racing was eagerly anticipating the final 2 rounds of the 2009 CMRA Championship at Race City Motorsports Park in Calgary, Alberta on the Sept 19-20 weekend. This weekend would see the addition of riders from all over western Canada competing in the Western Canadian Championship.

With the double header format, the racing got started off early and successfully for HardNoX. On Saturday Rob Darlington and Claude Bergeron competed in the Heavyweight Sportbike class with both finishing in the top ten. Middleweight Sportbike saw the whole team roll out to do battle with the best in Western Canada. With over 40 riders competing in this class the action was fast and furious. Rob, Colin Foster, and Curtis Lindenbach finished well inside the top ten, with Rob finishing second. In Middleweight Superbike there was some drama as the pole sitter got off to a slow start leaving the door open for Rob to go to the front. It was not easy however as he battled hard all race long for first spot finally gaining the top position a few laps from the end as his closest rival crashed out, giving Rob his first ever Pro win! Colin rode a solid race to fourth place with Curtis in the top ten and Claude rounding out the field in 16th.

Sunday started off with cold and rain but that didn’t dampen the HardNoX spirit. The final race day of the season had started. Heavyweight Sportbike saw Rob charge through the field to fourth place and the top 600 in the class. Claude narrowly missed out on a top 5 finishing 6th. In Middleweight Sportbike the extremely large grid provided the fans with tight racing. Rob battled at the front of the race to finish in second spot for the second time that weekend. Colin raced hard to a 5th place finish with Curtis rounding out the top ten with Claude close behind. The final race of the day, and of the season, for HardNoX was Middleweight Superbike. This class was again filled to capacity with riders battling each other nose to tail all around the 3.2km track. Rob fought hard all race long to secure his second Pro win in as many days. Colin again battled to a top five finish with Curtis taking a hard fought 10th and Claude finishing 16th.

The 2009 season was the second season for HardNox Racing and it was a fun filled experience. The team travelled to new tracks, met many new friendly racers and found race wins. Above all though they had fun doing it. With the possible closure of Race City Motorsports Park, the 2010 season is uncertain for HardNoX. The team would like to thank all of their friends, family and fellow racers for giving them a fun, exciting season.

HardNoX Hangs Tough

The HardNoX racers were in high spirits going into Round 4 of the CMRA Championship this weekend. Expectations were high as some racers had sorted out motorcycle problems and race results looked promising. Unfortunately that did not hold out all weekend.

During Saturday practice Lee Smith suffered a crash in turn nine that resulted in a broken foot that ended his season prematurely. Lee had shown great potential for the top 5 in the Amateur class.

On Sunday Claude Bergeron set his sights on the Amateur Heavyweight Sportbike top ten. Running strong and consistent throughout the race resulted in an 11th place finish. With all the HardNoX riders competing in the Middleweight Sportbike race, good results were expected. Rob Darlington ran strong finishing 3rd after a disappointing round 3 finish from a mechanical failure. Colin Foster was able to rocket to 5th place with a renewed run, and Curtis Lindenbach finished a strong 7th. Claude hustled to a 10th place finish and a personal best lap time.

With Rob, Colin and Curtis in the top 10 in Middleweight Superbike standings, a good race was expected. The start of the race would see the HardNoX riders at the front of the field with Rob leading and Curtis and Colin in the top 5 places. Unfortunately Rob would suffer another mechanical failure on lap 8 while running in second place. Colin and Curtis were able to run quickly, with Colin finishing 4th and Curtis in the top 10.

While it was a frustrating weekend for some team members, HardNoX is pushing forward and looking to have a successful weekend for the last races of the CMRA season on Sept 19-20. This weekend will also see the last round of the Western Canadian Championship run in conjunction with the CMRA rounds 5 & 6.

HardNoX Ups the Pace

After a one week break from racing, HardNoX competed in Round 3 of the CMRA championship at Calgary’s Race City Motorsports Park. This weekend marked the half way point in the CMRA season and after exciting performances in Edmonton and in the Parts Canada Superbike round in Calgary, expectations were high. Saturday practice saw the HardNoX riders on the Calgary track for the third straight day as they had worked Thursday and Friday for BGPR Schools. With so much track time before the race weekend and high temperatures over 30 C, the HardNoX riders spent Saturday doing minor prep work on all their bikes.

Sunday’s weather looked to be a factor in the racing with the threat of thundershowers throughout the day. Thankfully they did not appear and all the races were run in dry conditions. Claude Bergeron started off the day in the Blackfoot Motorsports Heavyweight Amateur race. Claude has set some high goals for 2009 and took the next step in that pursuit by posting his personal best lap time in this race of 1:27.944. He fought hard for a 7th place finish which moves him into 7th place in the Championship.

Next up in the afternoon was the Middleweight Sportbike class. With Rob Darlington 4th in the standings it was time to push forward. Rob got off to a great start going into turn one in the lead but had his shifter fall off requiring a visit to the pits putting him 2 laps down. Next behind though was Curtis Lindenbach fighting hard all race long in a crowd of riders, eventually emerging in the top ten. Colin Foster and Lee Smith ended up racing close to each other for most of the race. With Colin finishing in 8th place in the Expert class and Lee notching a 6th place in Amateur. HardNoX expert riders finished 7th, 8th and 9th. Claude pushed hard as well claiming a top ten finish in the Amateur class.

The final race for HardNoX was the Mountain Toys Middleweight Superbike race. This race is the grand finale of the CMRA weekend and always provides a great race for the fans. After his mechanical earlier in the day, Rob was fired up to redeem himself; and redeem himself he did. Rob got an excellent hole shot into turn one and lead the first lap of the race. He then settled in to fight for the lead of the race. On lap two he was passed for first place but held a large gap over third place. Fighting hard to stay in contact with the leader Rob was able to maintain a personal best lap pace in the 1:19s. Rob eventually finished second well clear of third place. Curtis, Colin and Lee all worked hard, actually racing against each other pushing for the top ten. Curtis was able to pull away from his teammates through the middle of the race while Colin and Lee battled each other for their final positions. The weekend proved to be a very positive one for HardNoX with most of the team setting personal bests. HardNoX is now in the hunt for top positions in the CMRA Middleweight Championship. Watch for them in Round 4 of the CMRA championship Aug 22-23.

HardNoX Harries Edmonton

Returning to Edmonton for the first time in over a year, HardNoX joined racers from Alberta and BC for Round 3 & 4 of the Western Canadian Championship (WCC) hosted by the EMRA at Stratotech Park this weekend. The tight 1.9 km kart track provides for very tight racing and difficult passing. This provided HardNoX riders with a tricky challenge in that they would have to start at the back of the grids with no EMRA championship points. The weekend got off to a slow start as Rob Darlington and Curtis Lindenbach suffered crashes in the Friday practice sessions. Luckily the damage was mostly cosmetic and the riders suffered no injuries. Re-familiarizing themselves with the track did not take long and all the riders were close to their lap times from the last visit to Stratotech.

Saturday started off slowly with Rob suffering an electrical fault that kept him out of practice. Saturday races started out after lunch with Claude Bergeron competing first. Starting at the back of the grid Claude got a good start passing 4 riders going into the first turn. He settled in to fight back and forth throughout the whole race. In Expert Open Sportbike Colin Foster, Curtis, and Rob started out with a great charge into the first turn challenging some of the local riders of the EMRA. In the end Rob was able to make it into the top ten with Curtis and Colin close behind. The second race of the day was the 600 Supersport class which is the main class for HardNoX in the WCC. With season points on the line all the riders were eager to move up. Rob jumped up pasted 3 riders on the start and Colin and Curtis fought hard a few riders behind. Rob was able to make some close passes and Curtis and Colin fought hard with two local riders for most of the race. Once they were able to get by they quickly opened a gap charging ahead.

Sunday’s expectations were higher after having a day of racing on Saturday. Rob went out in morning practice and with a few tweeks to the bike was able to set a fast lap time only a couple tenths off the track record. Colin and Curtis were steadily improving as well cutting over 2 seconds off their lap times. In Expert Open Sportbike Rob was able to get a great start and worked his way up the field. Fighting for 5th place going into turn two, Rob tried an aggressive outside pass on two riders but was unable to slow for the turn and ran off into the gravel and out into the grass without crashing. He returned to the race and finished the race toward the back. Meanwhile Curtis and Colin were battling hard with each other. HardNoX racers are infamous for racing each other hard and close and they proved that again in this race. The weekend finished well with all the racers enjoying a good fun weekend. HardNoX enjoys the relaxed fun atmosphere at the EMRA and looks forward to hosting all the western riders for the last 2 rounds of the WCC Sept 22-23 in Calgary.

HardNoX Has a Bright Bright Sun Shiny Day

HardNoX Racing enjoyed the bright bright sunshine for Round 3 of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at their home track this last weekend. With great weather came great results. Rob Darlington lined up for the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike class and Claude Bergeron competed in the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike race. With Rob suffering a hand injury in a work related accident 10 days before, resulting in 23 stitches in 2 fingers on his left hand; his ability to run was suspect up until Friday practice. Rob had a great Friday and Saturday practice and qualifying. Rob rode to a personal best lap time of 1:20.443 in Saturday practice and qualified 13th for his race. Claude also stepped up his pace in practice and qualified 16th.

The Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike race was first up on Sunday with Rob on the 5th row. He got a good start and passed a number of riders into the first turn. Unfortunately a red flag was shown on lap 6 for a downed rider resulting in a restart and 8 lap dash to the finish. Rob?s second start was even better and he pulled ahead of his friend and CMRA rival, Matt Schmidt of Mountain Toys Racing. Riding a quick pace Rob was able to pull out a 1.6 second advantage on Matt finally finishing in 13th place; finishing as the highest CMRA Pro Sportbike rider in the race.

51 year old Claude was competing in his first Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike race and the butterflies were flying before the start of the race. As is his custom Claude got a great start and ran strong in the middle of the pack resulting in his personal best lap time of 1:28.375. Claude finished in the same place as his teammate Rob, in 13th place.
HardNoX Racing is now preparing for Round 2 of the Western Canadian Championship in Edmonton, AB July 11-12

HardNoX Racing Meets Challenges

Competing in Round 2 of the CMRA Championship this weekend HardNoX Racing faced down some challenges and raised some successes. As is his form, Claude Bergeron started the weekend off for the HardNoX team in the BGPR Schools Heavyweight Sportbike class with a hard fought 8th place finish. The next race for the team was the largest CMRA class, the Mountain Toys Middleweight Sportbike class, with 35 riders battling. The race got off to a great start for expert rider Rob Darlington. From his second row start he dived into the first corner in the top 3 with teammates Curtis Lindenbach and Colin Foster close behind. However those two riders would have challenges to face during the race that would not allow them the full potential of their motorcycles. Rob Darlington battled hard at the front of the race to score a top 5 finish. Curtis Lindenbach was fighting in the top five when an electrical fault shut down his motorcycle. He was able to make temporary repairs and battle back to a top ten finish. Colin Foster provided some extreme drama as well in the middle of the race when getting a better than expected drive out of the bus stop caused him to collide with the rider in front of him forcing him off track and into the inside wall going over the hill into Carousel turn. Colin miraculously kept the bike upright and was able to still score a top ten finish. With the addition of amateur racer Lee Smith, HardNox now has two amateur racers poised to challenge the top 10. In his first race in over 3 years, Lee impressed with a fourth place finish in the amateur class and Claude narrowly missing out of the top ten.
As always the Mountain Toys Middleweight Superbike race at the end of the day provides the final bang to a CMRA racing weekend. This weekend was no exception. The HardNoX crew provided the fans some of the best racing action in the class. Rob was again able to battle at the top of the grid and managed a podium finish. Curtis again suffered electrical problems which hinder his progress through the tight field, but still managed a top ten. The battle of the day though, went to new teammates Lee and Colin. Throughout the 10 lap event these two riders paced each other within inches, swapping places multiple times per lap, diving inside each other at every chance. In a show of absolute trust, these two riders leaned on each other at times and battled to finish within hundredths of a second.

HardNoX is now hard at work preparing for Round 3 of the Parts Canada Superbike series at their home track in Calgary on June 26-28.

HardNoX Expands Lineup

HardNoX Racing today announced the addition of a new rider to its lineup. 36 year old Lee Smith will be joining the team as an amateur racer. Lee first got involved in racing in 2005 in the Calgary Motorcycle Roadracing Association and quickly moved to the top of the amateur grid; Lee then semi-retired to pursue a career with the Calgary Fire Department. In the interim Lee has been volunteering with BGPR Schools as an instructor. With the possible demise of Race City at the end of 2009, Lee was compelled to come back to racing. Lee will be competing in the Mountain Toys Middleweight Amateur Sportbike and Superbike classes. Lee and the team are confident that he will quickly return to form at the top of these classes. Look for the whole HardNoX Racing team in action this weekend at Round 2 of the CMRA Championship at Race City Motorsports Park, and in 2 weeks time for Round 3 of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship June 25-28 in Calgary.

HardNoX Returns Home

After a challenging opening weekend for HardNoX Racing in Round 1 of the Western Canadian Championship at Mission, BC; the team returned home to kick off their home schedule in the CMRA at Race City Motorsports Park. Saturday practice went well for most of the team getting comfortable at race speeds on their home track with new motorcycles. The new Bridgestone race tires provided an excellent platform for the racers. Rob Darlington did suffer a crash though on Saturday. Going into the 160 KPH first turn Rob missed a shift and crashed, suffering a concussion and broken right pinkie finger. After an evaluation at the hospital he would be able to continue on Sunday.

Sunday dawned with beautiful weather for a race day. The first rider to take to the grids would be Claude Bergeron in the BGPR Schools Heavyweight amateur race. Claude got a great start from the middle of the grid and had an exciting battle in the middle of the pack all race long. After lunch the whole team lined up for the Middleweight Sportbike race. Rob, Curtis Lindenbach and Colin Foster lined up a little farther back from their usual front row positions. Rob and Curtis ended up battling each other for most of the race while Colin fought hard to get into the top ten. Claude too was fighting for a top ten in Amateur. Race two saw the HardNoX expert riders competing in the Mountain Toys Middleweight Superbike race. After a great start Rob and Curtis fought all race long with some new experts to the field for the top 5 positions. HardNoX had a productive weekend becoming acclimatized to the new Bridgestone race tires and new motorcycles. With Round 1 under their belts they are very optimistic for Round 2.

HardNox Hauls in the Hardware

HardNox Racing attended the 2008 CMRA Awards banquet to honour all of the success stories in 2008. It was a time of reflection of the 2008 season and by all standards it was a good one for HardNox. We set out to “have fun racing” and we certainly did that. There were a lot of laughs, some disappointment, some surprises and a lot of speed. All in all HardNox ended up being one of the top teams in the CMRA taking home over 7 awards. In a big surprise as well, Curtis Lindenbach and Rob Darlington received the Jason Scraba award. This award is given to a rider that most exemplifies the giving spirit of racing in the CMRA. This is a special honour for Curtis and Rob as last year our own team member, Claude Bergeron was the recipient. The final awards count in the CMRA championships were as follows:

Mountain Toys/Motorcycle Tire Service Middleweight Sportbike

Expert
2nd – Rob Darlington
3rd – Curtis Lindenbach
4th – Colin Foster

Amateur
11th – Claude Bergeron

Mountain Toys Middleweight Superbike

Tragedy to Triumph

Going into the final 2 rounds of the 2008 CMRA championship at Race City Speedway this weekend; the HardNox riders knew they had to be consistent to solidify their championship standings. Saturday turned out to be a beautiful fall day with bright sunshine and warm temperatures, perfect for racing.
Claude Bergeron kicked the team off competing in the mornings BGPR Schools Heavyweight Amateur race. Next up was the Middleweight Expert and Amateur race featuring all 4 HardNox riders. Rob Darlington, Curtis Lindenbach and Colin Foster ran a great race and finished in the top 4 in Expert with Claude inching close to a top ten finish in Amateur.
The final race of the day, the Mountain Toys Middleweight Superbike race looked to be a barn burner with Rob, Curtis and Colin starting on the front row hoping to finish there as well. However a bit of tragedy was waiting around the corner. With Rob and Curtis battling with Acceleration Racing's Cody Matechuck for third place, and Colin close behind; going into the last corner, on the last lap, the teammates got a little to close. With Curtis passing Rob going into the last corner, and Rob trying to re-pass Curtis, they touched wheels and Rob crashed to the outside of the track. Colin meanwhile was catching the duo so quick, that when he saw the crash he was momentarily distracted and didn't make the corner either. This gave fourth place to Curtis, with Claude finishing in the top 15 and Rob and Colin getting DNFs; seriously jeopardizing their championship standings.

With Saturday's hard knocks fresh in their minds, and a gloomy rainy day ahead; the HardNox riders vowed to compose themselves and perform like they knew they could. Claude started the day off on the right foot with a top ten finish in Heavyweight Amateur giving the team a needed boost. With the HardNox expert riders checking the skies, the rain opened up and allowed them to cover the field in the Middleweight Sportbike expert race. The three HardNox experts finished in the top 4 positions with Claude battling to a 11th place finish in Amateur. Next up was Middleweight Superbike; the last race of the 2008 CMRA season, and redemption time! With the skies clearing and then raining again the team was anxious as to which tires to use for the race. With 3 of the 4 riders setting up back up bikes with rain tires no one knew what to do. 5 minutes before the start of the race a little bit of rain fell and then stopped dampening the track but not soaking it. Making for uncertain race conditions. Finally with less than a minute to go and race bikes heading out, all the HardNox riders headed out on regular race tires. However Curtis had a back up plan, and had Trayr Gabert take his back up bike; fitted with Pirelli rain tires, out to the hot pits so he could assess the situation on the warm up lap. At the end of the warm up lap, with a light drizzle coming down, Curtis decided in the last seconds to switch to the back up bike and start from the hot pits. This meant that he would have a waved start after all the riders had left the starting grid. This left Rob and Colin on the front row of the grid alone. They rocketed off on the slick race track with Cody Matechuck hot on their heels. Curtis meanwhile took up the rear of the pack. However with rain being intermittent, traction on their Pirelli race tires was getting less and less. This allowed Curtis to rocket through the field to fourth place by lap two and take the lead on lap 3! With superior grip provided by his Pirelli rain tires, Curtis was able to pull out to a substantial lead by mid race. Even with the track drying out Curtis was able to maintain his pace and win the race, bringing HardNox racing their first victory of 2008! Rob and Colin completed the great finish, solidly in the top 4, and Claude almost cracking the top ten.
A very successful, and triumphant end to the 2008 racing season for HardNox Racing.

August 18, 2008

After the summer break the HardNox crew were ready to heat up the track again in Round 4 of the CMRA championship. With temperatures in the 30’s the riders were ready to take a cool calculated approach to racing. Too bad no one told Curtis Lindenbach, who had his best weekend ever after getting engaged on Friday, he charged to the podium twice on Sunday. The Middleweight Sportbike race saw 3 HardNox riders start from the front row. Rob, Curtis, and Colin looked to get the jump on the field placing in the top 5. The Middleweight Superbike race again saw the HardNox crew at the front from the start and a great battle ensued between Curtis and Rob for 3rd place. All in all HardNox had its most successful racing weekend in 2008 keeping 3 of the riders in the top 5 of the Middleweight Sportbike and Superbike championships.

The team would also like to send out its congratulations to Curtis and Crista on their engagement.

HardNox Racing competed in round 3 of the CMRA championship this last weekend with high expectations. Facing familiar rivals in the CMRA, HardNox riders persevered and provided lots of heart pounding moments for the team and supporters during their races. Saturday saw sunny dawn but was overshadowed by a practice crash involving Colin Foster. Both bike and rider suffered minor injuries but were attended to and prepared for Sunday racing.
Sunday started out with the Heavyweight race with Curtis Lindenbach competing in expert and Claude Bergeron in amateur. Both riders went out and attacked the competition with Curtis finishing in a top 5 position. Sunday afternoon held some surprises for the team.
First up was the Middleweight Sport bike race featuring all 4 HardNox Riders. With Curtis, Rob and Colin all starting close together at the start of the race, these 4 riders battled each other for position for most of the race, unfortunately around half way Rob had a miscue and slid his motorcycle off the track. This provided Curtis and Colin a clear track which allowed them to really open it up, providing a show for the fans at just how fast the colour orange is. While Rob was able to get his bike back on track and finish the race. Surprisingly this would be a theme played out in the next race as well!
The final race of the day was the Middleweight Superbike feature which pits all racers against each other, experts and amateurs alike. This is the largest field in the CMRA with almost 30 riders competing. With the HardNox boys high in the championship they started on the first two rows. Rob, Colin and Curtis rocketed off the start to fall into the 4th – 6th positions. For the majority of the race these 3 teammates ran nose to tail within inches of each other. Most people expecting the teammates to be careful around each other would be surprised. The boys tested each other at every turn. Unfortunately at about ¾ distance the riders got a little bit too close going into turn 3. Curtis got a good run on Rob and actually touched his rear tire which caused him to slow, which caused Colin in turn to run into the back of Curtis. This ended up with Colin running off the track in a minor crash. He was able to pick his bike up and resume racing and charged hard from last place to finish eighth!! Meanwhile, the battle between Rob and Curtis got more and more intense as the laps wound down, ending up with a last lap pass in the last corner of the track. Curtis stuck his bike on the outside of Rob in the carousel turn actually leaning his arm on Rob’s bike. This caused Rob to run wide entering the chute and caused a tank slapper that bucked him out of the seat providing the crowd with an unbelievable finish. While overcoming adversity, the team produced good results again.

Rob Darlington is headed out east to compete in Round 4&5 of the Parts Canada Superbike series in Mosport, Ontario. The rest of the team will take a summer break and prepare for Round 4 of the CMRA championship on Aug 16-17.

June 30, 2008

The Parts Canada Superbike series rolled into Calgary on June 27-29. HardNox Racing rider Rob Darlington competed in the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sportbike race. Knowing that he was up against the full factory teams, Rob set his sights on a top ten finish against these elite riders. Friday and Saturday practice and qualifying went well with Rob qualifying in 14th place with a consistent 1:22.680 time. Sunday morning however, did not go as well. Rob crashed in the warm up in turn 4 damaging his bike beyond repair. HardNox Racing is a great team and Curtis Lindenbach offered up his race bike as a backup. The team scrambled to prepare the backup bike; get it teched, and new Pirelli race tires mounted. They did just that with 15 minutes remaining before the Pro 600 rollout. Racing on an unfamiliar bike without any set up or practice, Rob was cautious about the race. His goal was now to finish and represent the team well. Rob put his head down and went through the race to the best of his abilities; however on lap 12 he got off line getting out of the bus stop and this allowed the race leaders, Jordon Zoke, Kevin Lacombe and Chris Peris to get by. The race was red flagged on lap 14 placing Rob 15th in the field. While disapointed with the results, it was a great learning experience to race against the best in the Parts Canada Superbike series.

The team looked forward to getting home and competing in round 3 of the CMRA Championship. With all four riders competing, it looked like a busy and exciting weekend. First up for all the team member was the challenging Heavyweight Sportbike race. With national level riders Clint McBain and Brett McKormick competeing it was a great challenge for the HardNox riders. The race was uneventful with Rob scoring a top ten in Expert and Claude finishing in 8th in Amateur. Next up was the Middleweight Sportbike race. The team did very well with Rob finishing on the podium and Curtis, and Colin finsihing in the top six. The final race of the day was the all important Middleweight Superbike race. With some CMRA superbike riders competing in this class as well, it was a great challenge for the team. The race started well with Rob getting into second, and Curtis and Colin in the top 5 in the first lap. In the end it was top 10 finshes for Rob, Curtis and Colin.

HardNox Racing headed to Edmonton on June 14-15 to compete in Round 2 of the Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association championship at Stratotech Park. With only 3 of the four riders attending, and the team only able to compete in a couple of the rounds of the championship this year; the goal was to ride consistently, improve lap times, and have fun. HardNox always enjoys going to Edmonton as the club members are very friendly and they put on a good show. The weekend went very well for all of the riders with Colin and Rob finishing 5th and 6th in the Expert 600 Supersport race. Claude Bergeron also had a good weekend improving his lap times consistently and getting close to breaking the 1:08 min mark.

HardNox Racing will be back into the CMRA Championship hunt this weekend June 21-22 at Race City Speedway; and looking forward the Calgary round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship on June 27-29

HardNox Wets their Racing Appetite

HardNox Racing kicked off their 2008 racing season at Round 1 of the Calgary Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s regional races this weekend. Despite extremely rainy conditions, which washed out Saturday practice; the team’s familiarity with the 2 mile road course at Race City Speedway paid off.

Sunday morning kicked off with the Blackfoot Motosports/BGPR Schools Heavy weight race with the team showing well in the top 10. Next up for the team, was the Mountain Toys/Motorcycle Tire Service Middleweight race. The rain had started up again and track conditions were getting wetter by the minute. Despite these conditions the teams comfort level in the rain was growing quickly resulting in top 5 finishes for Rob Darlington, and Colin Foster in the Expert class and top 10 finishes for Curtis Lindenbach and Claude Bergeron.

The final race of the weekend was the Mountain Toys Middleweight Superbike 10 lap feature. All the riders got off to a great start with Curtis Lindenbach taking the initial race lead from the second row. Rob Darlington and Colin Foster moved up to the front of the pack in the first lap from their 4th row start. Rob and Colin moved up quickly to fight for the 3rd and 4th positions. Despite a braking error in the second last lap for Rob, which moved him back to 4th ; Rob, Colin and Curtis finished in the top five when the provisional winner of the race was disqualified on the dyno.

HardNox Racing would especially like to thank Richard Brown and Ben Wheeler of Redline Motorsports for coming out to the track in horrible weather conditions and pitching in to help the team.

Next up for HardNox Racing will be Round 2 of the Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association regional races in Edmonton at Stratotech Park on June 14-15.
